Construction

Integral centerboarder rigged as a Sloop in Steel, amateur-built according to the plans of the renowned naval architect Gilbert Caroff (hull built by professionals), launched in 2001.
The hull was sandblasted to bare metal in 2016 by Raiatea Carénage and 3 coats of epoxy primer followed by 2 coats of polyurethane paint, then sanded and 2 coats of antifouling at each haul-out.
Between 2016 and 2023, all the electrical system, plumbing, a large part of the interior, all navigation electronics, all running rigging, part of the standing rigging, and the upholstery were redone. The owner prepared the vessel for a world tour.
Arrived in Polynesia in 2010, the boat has since only sailed in Polynesia between the islands.
The Chatam Extrem is an extremely robust and comfortable cruising sailboat, both at anchor (1.90 m headroom and very well ventilated) and under sail (bi-chine and hard-chine hull). As an integral centerboarder, it allows access to secluded anchorages inaccessible to other vessels, with a “feet in the water” experience.
In terms of habitability, the previous owner lived aboard and carried out a complete refit of the boat between 2016 and 2022, so all the layouts have been “designed” for isolation and autonomy for island life.
Extremely well-maintained, the sailboat has been significantly improved and equipped for long-distance ocean navigation over the years.
The boat is in very good exterior and interior condition. Deck paint and non-slip coating redone in 2024 by a professional. Well-equipped for navigation and autonomy, it is truly ready for a transpacific voyage or a world tour.
